Comment on A Celebration of Steve’s Life by Chris Mowatt https://aboarddignity.com/blog/?p=6671&cpage=1#comment-11790 Sun, 19 Feb 2023 15:14:23 +0000 http://aboarddignity.com/blog/?p=6671#comment-11790 Hi Helen (and Ben and Sam and Co)

Today, I was looking back fifteen years at the heady days of 2007 when, like you, we were waiting for every snippet of news about the Lagoon 420 Hybrids being built in France, anxious to know if our dreams could become reality. Steve’s infectious enthusiasm helped keep us going during those uncertain times.

It’s very sad to think that Steve’s dreams were to be so short-lived, but good to know that he was able to fulfill those dreams in his final years.

All the best.

I hope you are doing well? Nice to see pictures of Steve. I hope you are doing well? Karen and I are living still in North Carolina, and our kids live just a town away. We finally sold Tahina in 2020 to our dear friends, and former crew, Jason and Lara. They are treating her very well and will soon finally begin their first chartering season in the Bahamas. My current project is a retrofit to a home built aircraft I purchased in June – an Vans Aircraft RV-10.

I was an avid reader of you and Steve’s blog and it was partially responsible for us to go buy our own yacht and go sailing on longer passages.
I have often thought about the blog and considered it to be at the forefront of today’s YouTube sailing blogs.
I once sent Steve a signed copy of of the latest Deacon Blue album (my daughter was dating one if the band members sons) and I know he appreciated the gesture and I hope he got the opportunity to listen to some of it before his illness took hold.
I hope that you Helen have found peace and happiness in the home you bought before Steve’s passing and the family are all doing well wherever they are in the world now. I’m sure Steve would be very proud of them. Youl’ll certainly have many great memories together and this blog is something I still have on iPad in my favourites section and occasionally read.
Wishing you and all your family a very Happy Christmas a d a peaceful New Year.

Kind Regards
Gordon (Ross)

Helen, you are pretty amazing too; Steve has left a wonderful legacy and he will live on through his family – anyone would be proud to have sons like these. Thinking of you all.

I’m sitting here listening to the crickets and road noise and a memory of Steve just popped in…

Back in 2005 or 2006, he took a summer intern from our company and me on a sailing trip in some New Jersey waterway. I couldn’t tell you what the name of it was but I remember the adventure of it. We were on the water for a few hours, Steve directing us to move about the boat, work the sails and ropes, shift our weight, and keep a keen eye on the water. He had a GPS on board, and showed us where our journey had taken us. I remember being fascinated by that, I thought it was amazing that something like that was created. I haven’t sailed on since.

I think of this from time to time, for it truly is one of those memories that sticks with you, you know the ones I mean. Steve was a great guy, I really enjoyed his company, he was great to talk to.

And I always admired his story.

Anyway, that’s the last memory I have of Steve, and what a wonderful memory it is.
