I have been following your blog for many months now and enjoy reading about your adventures. Hoping to be able to do something similar in a few years. We live in Hawkes Bay on the coast near Napier and been involved with boats since childhood.
Lobster pot, generally called crayfish pots in NZ. Mostly they are set using fish frames for bait and dropped very close to a lot of rocks as the crayfish live in cracks and holes around the weed (Kelp). They come out mostly at night to feed.
Trust you picked up a copy of the NZ fishing regulations as to size and limits on fish caught in NZ. Hate for you to have a bad experience getting caught by a M Fish inspector.
Best of luck with the crayfishing, may you soon have a big feed of NZ crayfish.
regards
Colin
