Indicator Problem

So now I know where Dignity was headed. Vilamoura, Portugal. All I know at this point is that the Captain saw some indicator he was not sure about and he pulled into port to check with Lagoon. If this is the case then I have no issues with the Captain’s decision to head for port as crew safety is his primary concern.

Of course, here we are a day later and noone has said anything more specific than this. No message from the manufacturer to let us know if everything is ok or not.

At this point we’re pretty much assuming we won’t get to see Dignity this summer. I’ve arranged plan B. There is another cat available for 3 weeks through CatCo. We’ve booked her instead. If Dignity arrives before we leave then we’ll switch.

It really won’t be the same but hey – it’s not a bad plan B.

Lagos?

Dignity is now 11nm from Lagos in Portugal. You can see from the track this is a major deviation from her intended route. She is actually 16nm further away from Las Palmas than she was yesterday. Has anyone communicated with me as to why? No. Was anyone able to explain to me what’s going on? No.

“Pleased” is not the word that first comes to mind.

Going sailing on Timeless this morning. That means I won’t get to see today’s position fix until later. The suspense of it all!

… later …

News not so good today. Only 56nm covered in the last 24 hours. Now she’s probably traveled further but the point to point distance in the last 24 hours is all I get. Even more ominous the the fact she’s only 43nm closer to Las Palmas than the same time yesterday.

Looking at the weather where she is you can see why. Wind speeds appear to be 5 knots at best.

The only crumb of comfort is that yesterday when I was calculating ETA I measured miles to Las Palmas rather than nautical miles. So the optimistic ETA is still July 3rd. Question is – can I still use estimates of 150nm per day as a basis of predicting her ETA. Not too sure. I will wait a few more days. By Tuesday we should see some good weather so we’ll see what can be accomplished.

… later …

Another quick weather check. Dignity may just be sailing in 15 knot+ winds right now.

ETA July 3

117nm today. Not the pace we want. Using a more detailed calculation our, optimistic ETA is now July 3rd. Weather is not helping. There’s a mild low pressure system to the West of her position which is resulting in winds on the nose for the next few days.

Two uplinks

141nm today. Not too bad. A little less than the pace set earlier (if I believe the uplinks). Good news is the course is out to sea and heading for the Canaries. This means there should be no more stops before Las Palmas. If we can keep this up Dignity will be in Las Palmas on the 13th. Supposedly it’s touch and go to pick up provisions and fuel. I get the feeling that’ll take a whole day. So the ETA for arriving in the BVIs another 18 days later is now July 2nd. If CatCo can turn her around in a day we’ll still get 9 days on her.

One extra bonus today was I got *two* uplinks. One on time and one a couple of hours earlier. If you know what I mean you’ll understand the thrill. If you don’t there’s not a lot of point explaining.

Quick message. If any of the folks at CatCo are reading this – I just want to say thanks for the attention you’re giving me – really appreciated. Seriously.
