Lazy start of the day. In the morning, Helen, Ben and Leah went of snorkeling to follow the trail the rest of us did the day before. Around 11am we motored round the corner to Caneel Bay where we again moored. Plan A was to dinghy to The Plantation – a resort – and walk or cab it into town for the celebrations. Turns out we couldn’t leave the dinghy there so Plan B involve us dinghying to the beach. We didn’t want to leave the dinghy on the beach so Sam took the Dinghy back and swam back to the beach.
We then walked a rocky path into town which went via a lookout over St Cruz Bay. We decided on the possibility of coming back there later to watch the fireworks from there.
When we arrived in town we discovered we had just missed the carnival parade which was a little disappointing. However, we did catch many of the locals in costume. Quite a sight.
We lingered around town for a few hours where we fed ourselves from the stalls and drank a few beers.
We went to the supermarket to buy a couple of extra torches and headed back up to the path to the lookout. We got there with an hour to spare but were there first so were able to commandeer the one and only bench. One other family appeared before 9pm when the fireworks started. It was a very good show and our vantage point over the town made it particularly good.

We made it back to the boat. The scary bit was watching Sam swim off in the dark. We soon lost sight of him and it was a relief when he switched on the boat lights and we knew he had arrived.
