Day 16 – Diving, Roadtown

This morning the four boys went scuba diving. The first stop was a purposely sunk wooden minesweeper called Fearless. She was in 80ft of water. Having been their for 20 years some of the woodwork had fallen away allowing us to see through the wreck in place. Cool and spooky. The second dive was on a coral reef which was very colourful and contained the usual fish plus a Lobstersaurus Rex. We ate dinner at Pusser’s. Afterwards, Leah managed to get most of us to go to karaoke.

Day 15 – Norman Island, Roadtown

The day started off with a cooked breakfast. Helen has been wanting one for a bit so we all went along. Many of us felt it was a bit much, particularly after the previous evenings meal.

Today we had some great upwind sailing in St Francis Drake Channel. First leg of the trip was from Soper’s Hole over to The Caves off of Norman Island. Ben lost his breakfast on the way. Some combination of the large breakfast, reading Shogun indoors and the rum he drank last night. At the caves we all went snorkeling. We were greeting by an enormous barracuda which we later learned lived there and was called Bert. The Caves were a fun swim. The longest goes back about 50ft and is totally dark inside. It is an awesome view when you turn to come out and see the daylight streaming in.

The Caves

After lunch aboard the boat we sailed over to Roadtown, Tortola and Village Cay Marina where we intend to stay for a couple of evenings.

Dinner was at a nearby restaurant called Nexus. Service was very slow. We think it was due to some anticipated customer spillover from the marina restaurant which was booked up for the evening for a special function.

Day 15 – The Barracuda known only as Bert

We set sail in the morning and decided to go the the caves to do some snorkeling. The caves were cool, one in which would actually lead up onto the beach of an island, but i didnt stay on that for very long. So on the swim back to the boat, i noticed these two MASSIVE barracuda. The bigger, uglier, meaner one was named Bert, and he certainly was scary. But after the time span of about 10 seconds, i noticed it was much more afraid of me then i was afraid of it, so i decided to play with them for abit. A bunch of people who were swimming by got totally wigged out by these barracuda, so John and I decided it would be a little bit of fun to chase the barracuda towards all the other swimmers. That didn’t work because they would keep turning towards the bait-fish, so that plan was ruined. Later went to a bay and ate at a restaurant, followed by the usual night concluding beer quaffing and talking to a boat full of really pretty girls from New York who were on a sailing camp.

Day 15 – Leaving Roadtown

This may be the last log you’ll see for a bit as we’re heading off island hopping again later today and internet connections are few and far between and, quite frankly, we often lack the will to set them up. General plan for today is the boys will dive again. We’re hoping to dive on the wreck of the Rhone today. Leah will join us and snorkel on the surface. She’ll get a good view of the rest of us doing our thing below. After that we’ll be setting sail for Cooper Island where we’ll spend the night. Tomorrow we’re heading back to The Baths as we’ve had multiple requests to make a repeat of this. Tuesday is a none cruise ship day so there should be less crouds. Tomorrow evening we head back to Peter Island. We’re hoping to pull together a rendezvous for a night dive which is again on the Rhone. Friday night we plan to stay in The Bight on Norman Island and either Wednesday or Thursday we plan on spending the night at Cane Garden Bay. That leaves us one more stop to figure out. That piece of thinking will be left till later.

Day 14 – Diesel Shower

Haha. Ok so here’s what happened through my perspective. We decide to dock on this pier where in which we’d get water, ice, and fuel. Everything’s going down, so i’m like “whatever, i’ll go talk to Leah” and such. I go downstairs, talk to Ben and Leah about stuff, next thing i hear is “AHHH!!!! STEEVE!!!”. The probably death shreak of my Mom made me wonder “what the hell?” so i decided to ascend the stairs to see what happened. In my mind i was like “$20 that Mom got sprayed with the hose, hahaha” but no, it was much worse. I peaked my head through the screen door to see what happened, and i came to find that the entire cockpit was green with diesel fuel. The smell was strong and knocked me back, giving me a booster to go tell Leah and Ben what happened. From then on it was just stress. Scrubbing that deck, trying to coordinate everything else as well. Oh my god, it was both tragic and hilarious. Like Dad says, “You learn something new every day” haha. So we then docked at this bay and went to a restaurant where i played a keyboard for the first time in 2 weeks. Ahh, it was nice. It would of been nicer, however, if it was a full 88 keys with a sustain pedal. I couldn’t play anything i wanted to! What a tease. The food was good at least, and at least i got a little bit of my malnutrition of music out of me.
