We had a pleasant motor sail down the west coast behind the reef. The channel was quite wide so there were no moments where we needed to take great care although we maintained a double watch throughout. We made our way all the way down to Baie d’Aves which is about as far as one can take a sailboat before it gets too shallow.
In the afternoon we dinghied out near the reef to snorkel. The water was nice and clear and the coral alive but the animal life was limited to small fish and tons of small sea cucumbers. Shortly after returning we headed for the beach for a nice walk around the edge of the peninsular to the small village of Parea. On the way we were on the lookout for a more interesting area to snorkel and we reckon we may dinghy over to the pass between the peninsular and the small island to the east.
We’ll stay here another night as it’s out of the way and relaxing. Tomorrow we’ll head back to Fare where we hear there will be some evening dancing.
