Day 17 – HMS Rhone

We went scuba diving at this wreck called “the Rhone”. It was especially cool because it actually was a horrific catastrophe and not a controlled demolition. It is rather eerie swimming through something in which many people died in, but it was still really cool. We then did another fish and coral dive, which wasn’t too bad. For the rest of the day we kind of just hung out really.

Day 16 – Fearless

In the morning we did a scuba dive at two places. The first was a wreck named Fearless, which was really cool. The second was just a coral + many fish underwater swim. I get the same kick out of snorkeling personally, but wrecks are just amazing. We then ate at a Pussers restaurant, and somehow we found ourselves doing karaoke. Yeesh.

Day 16 – Diving, Roadtown

This morning the four boys went scuba diving. The first stop was a purposely sunk wooden minesweeper called Fearless. She was in 80ft of water. Having been their for 20 years some of the woodwork had fallen away allowing us to see through the wreck in place. Cool and spooky. The second dive was on a coral reef which was very colourful and contained the usual fish plus a Lobstersaurus Rex. We ate dinner at Pusser’s. Afterwards, Leah managed to get most of us to go to karaoke.

Day 15 – Norman Island, Roadtown

The day started off with a cooked breakfast. Helen has been wanting one for a bit so we all went along. Many of us felt it was a bit much, particularly after the previous evenings meal.

Today we had some great upwind sailing in St Francis Drake Channel. First leg of the trip was from Soper’s Hole over to The Caves off of Norman Island. Ben lost his breakfast on the way. Some combination of the large breakfast, reading Shogun indoors and the rum he drank last night. At the caves we all went snorkeling. We were greeting by an enormous barracuda which we later learned lived there and was called Bert. The Caves were a fun swim. The longest goes back about 50ft and is totally dark inside. It is an awesome view when you turn to come out and see the daylight streaming in.

The Caves

After lunch aboard the boat we sailed over to Roadtown, Tortola and Village Cay Marina where we intend to stay for a couple of evenings.

Dinner was at a nearby restaurant called Nexus. Service was very slow. We think it was due to some anticipated customer spillover from the marina restaurant which was booked up for the evening for a special function.

Day 15 – Leaving Roadtown

This may be the last log you’ll see for a bit as we’re heading off island hopping again later today and internet connections are few and far between and, quite frankly, we often lack the will to set them up. General plan for today is the boys will dive again. We’re hoping to dive on the wreck of the Rhone today. Leah will join us and snorkel on the surface. She’ll get a good view of the rest of us doing our thing below. After that we’ll be setting sail for Cooper Island where we’ll spend the night. Tomorrow we’re heading back to The Baths as we’ve had multiple requests to make a repeat of this. Tuesday is a none cruise ship day so there should be less crouds. Tomorrow evening we head back to Peter Island. We’re hoping to pull together a rendezvous for a night dive which is again on the Rhone. Friday night we plan to stay in The Bight on Norman Island and either Wednesday or Thursday we plan on spending the night at Cane Garden Bay. That leaves us one more stop to figure out. That piece of thinking will be left till later.
